In 1979, UNESCO listed Dubrovnik's Old Town as a World Heritage Site, including a large part of the ancient city walls. They surround the city on all four sides and contain a respectable collection of historical monuments, including towers, fortresses, churches, monasteries, squares and streets, schools, museums and galleries.
