Yes, functionality is the same. You just need to design the home page that tells people why they want to post in that gallery.

The main advantages are: monetary rewards from sponsor links, affiliate links, licensing fees, own e-shop

Non-monetary: real life rewards: discounts for products & services

Also fun: puzzle together art, music, poetry; play with friends - they can add to posts any elements
